We all like adding accessories to our vehicles. it is an addiction as bad as nicotine or coffee. once you start you cannot stop. But it is an enjoyable addiction to most. The satisfaction to one’s self is beyond explanation. The aftermarket accessory market is a goldmine and the manufacturers know this. At the date of this article April 2007 many company’s already have availability for 2008 model vehicles such as the 2008 Ford Superduty. Some of the 2008 Ford Superduty accessories already available are as follows step bars, running boards, bedliners, vent visors, bug shields, visors, performance chips by Superchips, Wheels, tires and some others. Another example is the 2007 Chevy Silverado and the GMC Sierra.
GM is offering 2 body styles both the new style and the classic style. Coca cola tried this approach in the 80’s with new Coke and Classic Coke. we all know that the new Coke was basically Pepsi and Coke finally fazed it out..Gm will probably not take that approach it will be interesting to see. the point is that Aftermarket accessories are bigger then ever. let’s take Wheels & Tires for example. Who would have ever thought we would have 24 inch wheels or how about 26 inch wheels or even 28 inch wheels and now 30 inch wheels. What is happening?? it is called Bling.. society today wants Bling..We want People to see the money we have spent and the bigger the better.. I would have never thought about putting 17″ wheels on my Ford escort when I was a teenager.. the only thing that was available is some chrome steel wheels..But most of us were happy with a nice set of hubcaps…Today we probably would have put on a package with 17″ wheels and a set of 205-40-17 tires and of course dreamed of bigger like 18 inch rims, 19 inch rims or even 20 inch rims? Would those have fit on a 1983 escort GT.. I am sure we could have squeezed them on there.
So what is next for the aftermarket world, What is the next turn? We are already seeing some of the hot items from the eighty’s coming back Like red, yellow and green rims, tailgate net’s, double wipers. I am seeing it is much like the movies we are doing a remake of something that has already happened but with updated technology..As long as we don’t have wheels with beanie babies on them or something like that I am sure it will be fine…We are seeing lifted trucks and mud tires coming back as well. The suspension lift company’s are aggressively manufacturing products for virtually all new trucks right up to the current model year.. Suspension lifts are available for current year Ford F-150, Superduty F250 F350, Chevy Silverado Both regular and HD and of course Jeep Cherokee, Toyota Tacoma and Tundra, Nissan and many more..With the new suspensions there are also leveling kit’s now available.. The alternative to a lift that allows for larger tires. leveling kits such as marketed by Ready Lift offer a Quick and easy front suspension gain for most trucks. Average cost is slightly over $200.00 and work very well. Especially on the Chevy and GMC trucks where there is limited clearance as it is.. te kits give you a good 2-3 ” of additional clearance.
